Career Story - Jan-Jakob Bergmann

Jan-Jakob Bergmann, a Manager based in our Düsseldorf office, describes his experience of working at AFRY Management Consulting.

What is your role at AFRY, and what is your professional background?

I am a Manager in the energy sector, focusing on strategic and operational challenges in the energy industry. In recent years, mainly for transmission and distribution network operators.

Before joining AFRY in 2017, I worked in international development cooperation in the energy sector with a focus on Asia. I hold a Master’s degree in International Energy from Sciences Po Paris, as well as a Bachelor’s in East Asian Politics and Economics.

What do you enjoy about working for AFRY Management Consulting?

At AFRY, I have the opportunity to tackle challenges and answer questions in the energy sector as part of a great team. The diversity of projects and assignments that we work on provides a continuous opportunity for me to gain experience and knowledge.

Which of the AFRY values, Brave, Devoted & Team Player, resonates with you most?

While all of the values do resonate with me—definitely the Team Player part! I love working in multi-national teams and truly enjoy being part of the AFRY team.

Jan-Jakob Bergmann, a Düsseldorf-based Manager at AFRY Management Consulting.

In all of my projects, I have met talented, knowledgeable and passionate colleagues stemming from different professional backgrounds that have taught me so much and truly inspired me.

What should clients know about your projects, and what can they expect from working with you?

As a consultant, I strive to be a valuable and dependable partner for my clients. At AFRY, we use our deep industry and methodological knowledge to find solutions that are tailored to our client’s specific needs and support them in achieving their goals and improving their performance. Therefore, every project is different—but the key result is always the same: a happy client.

In what area are you passionate about making a difference?

I believe that at AFRY, we are able to help shape the future of energy. Through our work in the energy and sustainability sectors, we play an important role in solving what is probably one of the biggest challenges to mankind and certainly our biggest challenge in this century. If this is not motivating, what is?

Besides your job. Tell us more about yourself. What do you like outside your work?

I love travelling and exploring new cultures and places, as well as spending time with family and friends. Speaking of family: Our project-based business allowed me to “switch jobs” and take a longer paternal leave to spend time raising my son and running the household. It’s a valuable experience that every parent should be able to make—and definitely possible and encouraged at AFRY!
