All plants in Europe that fall within the scope of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) must produce an independent, third-party verification of their emission report. This verification is an important component in the emissions trading scheme.
Companies authorised to verify emission reports must be accredited and are described as "accredited verification bodies". ÅF was one of the first companies in Sweden to be accredited (by the Swedish Board for Accreditation and Conformity Assessment, SWEDAC) to verify CO2 emissions and emission reports. In Finland ÅF is an accredited certification body S026, EN 45011 (ISO/IEC Guide 65), to verify CO2 emissions and emission reports, accredited by FINAS, Finnish Accreditation Service.
ÅF understands the issues at stake
ÅF has worked with these issues for a long time, providing expert assistance to government ministries and official bodies tasked with producing appropriate regulations for Swedish industry.
We have also:
- studied the impact of the ETS on various sectors of industry and, in some cases, individual companies
- developed and led training and education sessions specially tailored to the needs of our clients to give them a better insight into the ETS
- helped clients to interpret the directives and guidelines and the implications these have for them, both in Sweden and abroad
- worked with the Kyoto Protocol and its complimentary mechanisms
- responded to requests from client companies involved in the ETS by developing a basis for calculating emissions of carbon dioxide and routines for monitoring these emissions
- cooperated on international climate projects
