Systems of systems

The growing network-based approach to defence involves a number of interrelated systems.

One example of this is the coordination of the various communication and radio systems operated by the armed forces, with everything from normal mobile calls to specially-designed encrypted services. Another example is the advanced electronic reconnaissance aircraft which used to operate autonomously, but which are now to be integrated into a defence network. Many systems, such as JAS39, are also being further developed to tackle new tasks and function successfully under changing global conditions.

ÅF works to draw up documents on which decisions can be based, including descriptions of which systems are to operate in concert and how that will work. The documents are also used to guide the design of the various subsystems. Coordinating different patterns of requirements requires a holistic approach and detailed knowledge. We have long experience of working in dialogue with the relevant parties to design technological solutions for the defence systems of tomorrow.
